AMERICA/BOLIVIA - Catholic communicators in Cochabamba discuss “the Church and public opinion in the digital age”

Cochabamba (Agenzia Fides) – Catholic communicators met today in Cochabamba with the goal of discussing strategies for informing and communicating via new technologies. The meeting was organised by the Episcopal Conference of Bolivia to reflect on the status of the work carried out by the Catholic Church in this regard. The statement sent to Fides about the meeting states that the theme is: “the Church and public opinion in the digital age”. Four related conferences will take place, the themes for which range from the role of communications technology to the reality of communication within the Catholic Church, the Catholic community and the Church's social doctrine, and the role of its official spokesperson.
There are about forty participants gathered at the Casa Clemente Maurer. The opening ceremony was presided over by Bishop Oscar Aparicio, Secretary General of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference, and by Bishop Sergio Gualberti, head of Communications. In addition, the Apostolic Nuncio, Monsignor Giambattista Diquattro, will present the Pope's message for the 45th World Day of Social Communications. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 07/04/2011)
