AMERICA/VENEZUELA - “Compartir 2011”: campaign by the Diocese of Los Teques and Caritas to confront the emergency

Monday, 4 April 2011

Los Teques (Agenzia Fides) – The Diocese of Los Teques, in Venezuela, together with the health program of Caritas, has begun its annual fundraising campaign known as “Compartir 2011”. The goal this year is to bring aid to the people affected by the floods and to inform them about how to protect the environment. Guiding the activities of the campaign are the Bishop of Los Teques, Bishop Freddy Fuenmayor, and María José González., who expect the fundraising to occur in the leadup celebrations to Holy Week. The funds raised last year went towards more than 200 medical consultations and surgical interventions for children and adolescents. The funds also allowed for the increase of food distribution to the poor, and to promote projects for prisoners and community organisations. The goal of the Bishop of Los Teques is to collect a sum to be kept on hand to deal with emergency situations, without having to wait for opportunities to present themselves to apply for aid.
