AMERICA/VENEZUELA - Preparing for CAM 4: secularization is a reality that we should recognise as present but that must be addressed

Tuesday, 22 March 2011

Santa Cruz (Agenzia Fides) – One of the goals of the Continental Meeting of National Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of America, from 14 to 19 March in Bolivia (see Fides 11/3/2011; 15/3/2011; 17/3/2011), was the presentation of preparations for the Fourth American Missionary Congress (CAM 4), put forth by Fr Andrea Bignotti, Director of the PMS in Venezuela. “I never thought I would experience the celebration of CAM4-COMLA9 as National Director,” said Fr Bignotti. “The Church in Venezuela has just had their Plenary Council, a place for important reflections on the work that needs to be done in cultural, social, religious and missionary sectors.
In September 2010, Venezuela hosted the Continental Congress for youth ministry and is now preparing for the Continental Missionary Congress of 2012, important challenges that will undoubtedly develop the ecclesial communion that we want to promote in Venezuela,” emphasised Fr Bignotti. “As planned, in January the first Symposium was held in Caracas in preparation for the Continental Congress on the theme of secularization, a reality that exists not only in Latin America and the Caribbean, but throughout the world. What is special is the invitation to be a disciple-missionary from America to the world,” said the PMS National Director.
“Secularisation is a reality that we should recognise as present but that must be addressed, and we as a Church need to see how many forces there are in society to promote evangelisation in the various fields: cultural, social, in the diverse situations and contexts of our Countries,” added Fr Bignotti, inviting everyone to participate in CAM 4, an event of great importance for the missionary Church on the continent.
