OCEANIA/SOLOMON ISLANDS - New secondary school opens dedicate to Don Bosco

Saturday, 5 February 2011

Nila (Agenzia Fides) – A new secondary school was recently opened in Nila, dedicated to Don Bosco, the “Saint John Bosco Senior Secondary School and Training Centre”. As it said in a statement issued by the “Nila Mission Station” (NSA), some teachers and professors for the new education centre, made possible by the Diocese of Gizo, will be former Salesian students and some will come from centres in the Philippines. The new school is much appreciated and supported by the local community: a hundred people expressed their satisfaction at the building and promised to participate in the efforts for future collaborations that will be necessary. Particularly involved in the initiative were also some Italian volunteers, former supporters of the various Salesian projects in Tetere and Henderson. The school will change its name to “Saint John Bosco Tuha Junior Secondary School”, and follow the path outlined by the Salesian school in Henderson, which in 2000 opened the way for a new type of education in the country. Some of the boys who graduated from the Don Bosco Institute of Henderson are now studying at the institute for teachers in Vanga, run by the diocese. (AP) (5/2/2011 Agenzia Fides)
