Wednesday, 19 January 2011

Beijing (Agenzia Fides) – At the beginning of the new year evangelisation continues to be the priority in the life of the Catholic mainland community in China, who are being asked what has been done in this area during the year ended and what are the activities planned for the new year. Fides has been sent numerous bulletins in this regard, of which we can report a few. During the evangelisation meeting between two missionary groups from the Diocese of Tai Yuan, Shan Xi province, held on 15 January, an analysis was made on the year ended and planning conducted for initiatives in the new year. According to those who attended, “we must be firstly well-prepared ourselves to match the lofty heights of the mission. Our 'secret weapon' for a fruitful mission of evangelisation is the Sacred Scripture. The Bible is the source of strength and power. Secondly, we need to have charity and patience, invoking the aid of the Holy Spirit. Thirdly, we need to give maximum importance to the family.” Also the ten “Bible Study” groups from the Diocese of Tai Yuan, at the 15 January meeting, confirmed their missionary commitment through spreading the Word of God.
“The laity is called to create an ecclesial community of communion” is the theme of the meeting organised by the parish of Yi Nan, in the Diocese of Lin Yi, Shan Dong province, held on 16 January. About 40 members of the laity active in pastoral care, catechists in the parish and representatives from about 20 chapels, have retraced the missionary journey undertaken by the community from 2007 to 2010, confirming the mission as the main activity in 2011. It was also decided to celebrate throughout the year, a Pilgrimage of the Relics of St Joseph Freinademetz (1852-1908), the Divine Word missionary who devoted 30 years of his life to mission to China, to renew the commitment to follow in the footsteps of his missionary spirit.
