Tuesday, 4 January 2011

Beijing (Agenzia Fides) – The Chinese Catholic community on the mainland has already reaped its first vocational fruits at the beginning of new calendar year. According to information received by Fides, on 1 January, Solemnity of Mary Mother of God, over 2,000 faithful in the diocese of Ba Meng, Inner Mongolia, attended the priestly ordination of Fr Duan Yong Kun and the diaconate ordination of two seminarians, which was presided over by Bishop Du Jiang, Ordinary of the diocese, who officially took office last 8 April. In addition to the diocesan priests, 20 priests from the province of He Bei concelebrated the solemn ordination liturgy. Bishop Du recommended to the three ordained to “dedicate themselves entirely to Christ, to the Church and to the faithful, becoming fishers of men while exercising the ministry of charity.” He then invited everyone to prayer and to spiritually accompaniment, that “the new priest, who underwent a 15 year vocational journey, and the two deacons, may undertake the mission of evangelization in the best way.”
Again on 1 January, 2011, two sisters from the diocesan Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the diocese of Xian Xian (today Cang Zhou) made their perpetual vows in front of Bishop Joseph Li Lian Gui and two other young women officially entered the postulancy.
