Wednesday, 10 November 2010

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – “The Word of God is at the heart of Christian formation and also promotes inter-religious dialogue.” This is how, on the eve of the ninth seminar dedicated to Sacred Scripture in Chinese, Archbishop John Ha Tiong Hock, Archbishop of Kuching (Malaysia) and also experienced Bible scholar, stressed the importance of Sacred Scripture to the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of Hong Kong's diocesan bulletin). Organized by the “Federation of Chinese Catholic Biblical Associations,” the seminar will be held in the Archdiocese of Kuching November 11 to 15. During his visit to the Hong Kong diocese, Bishop John Ha has pointed out that "especially during seminary studies, the Word of God must be the absolute center. The Synod dedicated to the Word of God that took place in 2005 underlined this conviction."
The "Federation of Chinese Catholic Biblical Associations,” begun in Hong Kong during the Second Seminar on Sacred Scripture in Chinese, in 1990, is composed of personalities from the ecclesial world and experts in Sacred Scripture from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, with the goal of creating a network at the service of Sacred Scripture and promoting reading and studying of the Word of God. In July of that year, "Service Center" was created to improve this service. Today, Catholic communities of Malaysia, Macao, and Australia, which form a part of the Federation, take turns hosting the seminar held approximately every three years.
