Ciudad Lázaro Cárdenas (Agenzia Fides) – The Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Mexico, Father Guillermo Alberto Morales, explained during a press conference the details of the XIV National Missionary Congress (CONAMI), to be held in Ciudad Lázaro Cárdenas, October 21 to 24. The press conference was presided over by Bishop Fabio Martínez, Bishop of Ciudad Lázaro Cárdenas, was also attended by Father Eric Sánchez, secretary of the diocesan XIV CONAMI.
From the information provided by PMS in Mexico to Fides, we learn that the event is addressed to all members of the Catholic community, laity, priests, religious, and has as main objective to "promote a living encounter with Christ in order to offer a generous response to the current needs of the Church and the world." This Missionary Congress will also seek to "renew the dynamism of evangelization ad gentes in all the particular Churches, to remain faithful to Christ's missionary mandate: 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature' (Mark 16:15)'.” Similarly, it will try to "provide a clear introduction to the Church's missionary nature and strengthen the missionary character of the ministry of priests, religious, and laity."
Father Guillermo Alberto Morales explained that the event is an expression of the PMS' evangelization commitment within the Church in Mexico and explained the function of each of the four Mission Societies. "The National Missionary Congress is held in our country every five years and is one of the most important instruments for the promotion of the missions in the entire Catholic community in Mexico," Bishop Martinez said at the press conference, and added: "Through the Congress we try to renew the missionary spirit of the participants through deep reflection on the formation themes and on the missionary experiences of the speakers." The slogan of the 14th Congress, organized by the PMS, is: "Like Mary, we must share our faith with joy." (CE) (Agenzia Fides 07/10/2010)
