VATICAN - Archbishop Robert Sarah appointed President of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Archbishop Robert Sarah, previously Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, as President of the Pontifical Council "Cor Unum." Today, Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, conveyed the news to all the staff working at the Congregation and in the General Secretariats of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Archbishop Sarah succeeds Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes, who resigned for reasons of age.
Archbishop Robert Sarah, Archbishop Emeritus of Conakry (Guinea), was born in Ourous (Archdiocese of Conakry) on June 15, 1945. He was ordained priest on July 20, 1969. Elected bishop on August 13, 1979, he was consecrated on December 8th of that year. On October 1, 2001 he was appointed Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. (S.L.)
