AMERICA/ARGENTINA - 3rd Meeting of Missionary Groups, celebrating the missionary month in Argentina

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) – The Youth Ministry Commission of the Bishops' Conference of Argentina has indicated its support and unity in prayer for the 3rd Meeting of Missionary Groups, to be held from October 8-11, in the Diocese of San Miguel, with the theme "Disciples and missionaries here and beyond the borders."
A note sent to Agenzia Fides by the Pontifical Mission Societies of Argentina metions that the Department of the Laity of the Bishops' Conference of Argentina (DEPLAI) has sent its support and "hopes that the III National Meeting will bear abundant fruits for the mission underway in the country."
"The many experiences of lay people, priests, and religious, shared and evaluated in a national meeting, will give momentum and enthusiasm to the new missionary activities, the bearers of the Word of God to the whole world," said the statement signed by Dr. Justo Carbajales, Executive Director of DEPLAI.
The note from the PMS of Argentina recalls that the launching of the missionary activities for October 2010 took place in the Cathedral-Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Valle in Catamarca, on the occasion of the centennial anniversary of the diocese. The Mass was presided over by Bishop Elmer Osmar Miani, Bishop Emeritus of Catamarca, on October 2. (See Fides 25/09/2010)
The PMS of Argentina have decided to begin the month of missions each year in a different region of the country. In 2009, it was begun in the Basilica de Itata.
The statement also recalls that on October 9 and10, in all dioceses and parishes in Argentina, the collection No. 84 will be for the missions, as an expression of brotherhood and universal solidarity.
