Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – About 400 new teachers from Catholic schools were invited by the Diocesan Office for Catholic Education in Hong Kong to attend a workshop to learn the values and principles of Catholic education. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), before opening of the new school year, teachers were divided into groups of kindergarten teachers, elementary school teachers, and high school teachers to follow the three stages of the workshop: prayer, the work of the Diocesan Office for Catholic Education, and a seminar chaired by Fr. Simon Lam, Salesian Superior of the Province of China.
In prayer, the participants came together to ask the Lord's help in accomplishing this mission in the best way. The Delegate of the Bishop for Educational Affairs welcomed everyone present and explained the structure of the Catholic education in the diocese.
Afterwards, the Director of the Center for the Development of Religious Education and Ethics Office presented the values and principles of Catholic education, stressing that being a Catholic teacher means being a "good shepherd". He also encouraged the inclusion of religious education and ethics in teaching science. Fr. Simon Lam focused on the development and integral growth centered on the figure of Christ that the Catholic school offers students.
