Chimbote (Agenzia Fides) – The newspaper of the Diocese of Chimbote "Mar Adentro" is available on the website of the diocese every month. Through a new system, visitors will have access to the contents of the newspaper in order to keep updated on the most important news of Church life locally, nationally, and worldwide. This month, for example, the paper presents six ethical criterias needed to better choose political representatives, a campaign launched by the Bishops' Commission for Social Action, CEAS.
According to information gathered by Fides, the online newspaper has various updates: "The elections on October 3 are an opportunity to restore ethics in politics"; a training course for youth ministry leaders; Christians in politics (several articles on the preparation of the Christian community for a responsible vote, the characteristics of candidates, the voice of the Church on moral leadership in civil society, the need to be attentive to the campaign promises so they do not remain as merely promises, democracy with freedom and responsibility, etc..); articles on pastoral-social ministries; and testimonies of priests involved in the community.
The Diocese of Chimbote, a prelature since 1962, was raised to the rank of diocese in 1978. It has three missionary priests who died as martyrs and whose cause for beatification was begun on August 9, 1996. The diocese is located to the north of the capital of Peru, in the department of Ancash, and covers an area of 23,000 km2.
