EUROPE/ITALY - Sr. Luzia Premoli, new Superior General of the Comboni Missionaries, first non-Italian

Verona (Agenzia Fides) – Sister Luzia Premoli, a Brazilian, is the new Superior General of the Comboni Missionary Sisters, elected September 20 in the 19th General Chapter of the congregation, which has been underway at the motherhouse in Verona since September 1 (see Fides 07/10/2010). Sr. Luzia is the twelfth General Superior of the Congregation and the first non-Italian. In the coming days, the Chapter will elect four General Councilors who will join Sr. Luzia in this ministry for the next six years.
Sr. Luzia was born in Linhares, ES (Brazil) on March 23, 1955. After her first profession of vows in 1983, she earned a degree in Psychology and later went to Mozambique in 1989, where she lived for eight years, carrying out a pastoral ministry in the education of women in the Interdiocesan Seminary. She also gave training courses for women. At the same time, she also served as Provincial Treasurer. In 1997, she returned to Brazil to take on the service of Mistress of Novices. There in Brazil, she also earned a Masters in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Counseling. In 2005, she was elected Provincial Superior of the District of Brazil.
