VATICAN - Seminar for new bishops of Propaganda Fide territories “rekindles the flame of the missionary spirit, making it more alive, stronger”

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – "This seminar is very important, because when you are a newly appointed bishop, you need an additional training in order to carry out the mission entrusted to you by the Church, addressing specific issues concerning the role of the bishop such as the government of the diocese, personal and community sanctification, as well as practical issues." This is what Fides was told by Bishop Bonaventure Nahimana, Bishop of Rutana (Burundi), who is participating along with a group of about a hundred bishops appointed in the last two years in ecclesiastical circumscriptions that are dependent on the Missionary Congregation in a seminar sponsored by the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (see Fides 06/09/2010). "The mission of the bishop includes many aspects,” said Bishop Nahimana. “We really need this training. The seminar is also an opportunity to share experiences with bishops from different nations of the world, making us feel part of the universal Church."
Bishop Francisco Antonio Escobar Ceballos, C.Ss.R., Redemptorist Missionary, Vicar Apostolic of Puerto Carreño (Colombia), said that the seminar “is a great opportunity for us to deepen in our vocation of service. In fact, the many duties and commitments of priestly life can keep us from understanding the real idea and spirituality of the mission. This type of initiative, this pausing to reflect and share things gives us a new perspective. It makes our vocation come alive and take on another color. It truly rekindles the flame of the missionary spirit, making it more alive and stronger, with a spirituality that is more rooted in our Christian and missionary principles.
