EUROPE/ITALY - Priestly Fraternity of the Missionaries of Saint Charles: 25 years in the world

Saturday, 11 September 2010

Rome (Agenzia Fides) – Tuesday, September 14, marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Priestly Fraternity of the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo. For the occasion, at 7pm, in the Parish of Santa Maria in Domenica alla Navicella, in Rome, the founder of the Fraternity, Msgr. Massimo Camisasca, will preside a solemn Mass. Founded in 1985, the Society is a society of apostolic life of pontifical right recognized by John Paul II in 1999. Today it has 104 members that live in community, with houses of at least three members. The Fraternity's charism stems from the charisma of Msgr. Luigi Giussani, founder of the ecclesial movement Communion and Liberation. Its goal is evangelization and education in the faith through the exercise of priestly ministry. They have more than twenty missions on four continents, from Taipei (Taiwan) to Asuncion (Paraguay), from Nairobi (Kenya) to Prague, as well as several others in various Italian regions. There are two houses of formation, one in Rome and one in Santiago de Chile, which are home to forty seminarians.
“Twenty-five years is both long and short at the same time,” said Msgr. Camisasca. “They are many years if I think about the responsibilities I live out day to day, but they are very few if I think of the ease with which the Spirit of God takes us through the history of the world, the ease with which he leads us, the consolation which fills our hearts. After all, what difference does it make? What matters is the answer that, with our poor efforts, indeed precisely through our own weakness, we give to the voice of Christ who calls us and invites us to enter the great and simple mystery of light and love that is His life. These twenty-five years have simply coincided with a greater knowledge of Christ and of ourselves. The mystery of man has opened before our eyes, and with it, the mystery of God, of His constant desire to seek us out and make us His." (SL) (Agenzia Fides 11/09/2010)
