Monday, 9 August 2010

Trujillo (Agenzia Fides) – The President of the Council of Ministers, Javier Velasquez Quesquen arrives today, August 9, in the city of Quillabamba, province of La Convencion in Cuzco, to initiate a dialogue with leaders and authorities and with the population on the issue of export of gas from Camisea that led to a general strike in the area which lasted nearly 12 days.
Velasquez Quesquen's trip is taking place after the end of the general strike in the area, thanks in part to the intervention of the Catholic Church. In fact, the Archbishop of Trujillo and President of the Peruvian Bishops' Conference, Archbishop Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, OFM, arrived on Saturday, August 7, and met with nearly 100 representatives from the Central Committee in the Province of La Convenion, to prepare the dialogue with the representative of the Peruvian government.
In today's meeting, Velaszquez Quequen is scheduled to inform on all that regards the exportation of gas that is extracted from the area of Camisea, the construction of the South Gasodotto and the benefits that this part of the country has received from that resource.
