Monday, 2 August 2010

Cochabamba (Agenzia Fides) – The Department of Communication and Press of CELAM has sent Fides the final document of the meeting held in Cochabamba, July 28 to 30.
The objective of the meeting was to share experiences of communication, assess progress, problems, achievements, and prospects for pastoral communication, and at the same time, strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and missionary commitment in the region of Bolivarian countries.
Among the conclusions is a commitment to continue the Permanent Mission: "In line with the Permanent Mission, a great challenge in the document of Aparecida, we reaffirm our commitment to continue to promote the process of renewal of the Church and its evangelizing work through communication strategies to promote greater dissemination and knowledge of the Good News. We are committed to living the mission in our homes, churches, and the media and, through our testimony, motivate communicators and journalists to respond with hope and passion to the call of Jesus.” The document confirms the challenge to live the values of the Gospel: "The reality of our country challenges us and asks us to be partakers of the Church's prophetic mission in light of the Social Doctrine and the Gospel. We welcome the challenge of being faithful to the truth and to living the Gospel values: freedom, justice, reconciliation, and forgiveness, in order to positively influence public opinion."
The paper concludes with a call to intensify efforts for digital literacy and training in communication for all members of the Church, "a complete training in communications, including all human, technical, ethical, pastoral, and spiritual resources." (CE) (Agenzia Fides 08/02/2010)
