AMERICA/VENEZUELA - The joy of being missionary disciples: looking towards the National Congress for Missionary/Holy Childhood and Adolescence

Thursday, 22 July 2010

San Carlos (Agenzia Fides) – The diocese of San Carlos de Venezuela-Cojedes will host from 11 to 15 August, the 4th National Congress of Missionary/Holy Childhood and Adolescence (CONIAM) which will have the theme “Holiness: the joy of being missionary disciples ”. The invitation sent to Fides reads: in the wake of the 4th American Mission Congress (CAM 4) and the Continental Mission, missionary children and young people of Venezuela of the third millennium will gather together to then go out to every corner of our country to bear witness to the faithful love of God the Father, as a contribution to the Continental Mission.
In the document of Aparecida the Bishops of Latin America affirmed that childhood and adolescence are the first stage of life and a marvellous time for sharing the faith and therefore we too, like children, must welcome children as the beloved of the Kingdom, and valorise the missionary ability of children and adolescents, so they may evangelise not only their companions, but also parents, other relations and the whole community. “It is urgent in Venezuela today, to form new generations of missionary disciples from an early age, because it is in childhood and adolescence that consciences are formed and children learn values which will guide them all through life ”.
The principal goal of the Congress is to spread awareness among children and adolescents of Venezuela of the missionary duty assumed at baptism to be missionary disciples, to live with Jesus the joy of holiness and to announce the Gospel from Venezuela to the whole world. The Congress is for children aged 9 to 15 who are active members of the Pontifical Mission Society of Missionary / Holy Childhood. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 22/7/2010)
