Wednesday, 14 July 2010

Bhopal (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Bible in Hindi, a complete edition, can be read on line at www.biblemitr.com a site created by the Catholic archdiocese of Bhopal, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The local Church informs Fides that millions of believers all over India will benefit from this initiative. The new web site also offers prayers, readings and theological reflection in Hindi.
The web site www.biblemitr.com is the work of a group of priests, religious and lay volunteers. The aim is to help spread the Word of God in India, on the vast new stage of the World Wide Web.
The initiative aims to bring the Bible closer to young people especially and will be used as part of youth pastoral activities, seeing that among the younger generations the Internet is a popular means of gaining information, including spiritual information.
Hindi, used by at least 500 million Indians, is the sub-continent's most widely spoken language. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 14/7/2010)
