Wednesday, 14 July 2010

Dacca (Agenzia Fides) - In Bangladesh floods have left 600,000 stranded and submerged thousands of hectares of crops. Torrential rains crossing the Himalayan mountains cause rivers to flow southwards and overflow in Bangladesh. The situation is not improving. During the monsoon period, from the second week of June to mid August, the river, subject to erosion and overflowing and hydromorphological dynamics, is periodically submerged. According to the local authorities, access to areas along the River Brahmaputra, the country's largest river which divides the country into east and west before flowing into the Gulf of Bengala, is still difficult.
