Thursday, 24 June 2010

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) – The Commission for Pastoral Care of Human Mobility of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Brazil (CNBB), in collaboration with the National Secretariat for Justice of the Ministry of Justice has issued a publication with the title, "Human trafficking", which follows a National Seminar held at the end of 2008 on how to combat human trafficking. About 100 people attended the presentation including the president of the Bishops' Conference, two Bishop members of the Bishops' Conference Pastoral Commission (CONSEP) and other bishops, besides representatives of the national Secretariat for justice and other authorities.
CNBB president, Bishop Geraldo Lyrio Rocha, said the publication was an expression of the Church's “constant and ongoing” concern for the condition of thousands of people “subjected to degrading conditions of abuse, especially women and children, in national and international trafficking of human persons”.
“This booklet is intended as an aid for reflection and for identifying alternatives and ways of combating this criminal practice” said Mgr Geraldo Lyrio Rocha, underlining the necessity of action to “prevent of the crime as well as to further the social reinsertion of the victims of such behaviour which degrades the human person ”.
