AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Fr. Salvador Martuccio, former PMS National Director passes away

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) – Friday, May 7 in San Camilo Clinic, in Buenos Aires, after battling with a long illness, Fr. Salvador Martuccio, who had served as National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Argentina in the period 1985-1995, passed away. The funeral was celebrated by Bishop Luis Alberto Fernández, Auxiliary Bishop of Buenos Aires, and his remains were interred in the cemetery of Recoleta. The current National Director of the PMS, Father Oswald Leone, described him as "a priest dedicated to the service of the universal mission of the Church, through prayer and generous service." Fr. Leone said Fr. Martuccio "lived the resurrection of Jesus as a way of life, in his daily commitments and in every situation," noting that "he knew that, however great the joys on this earth may be, all this was nothing compared to eternal friendship and communion with the Master."
