AMERICA/BOLIVIA - One year after the launch of the Permanent Mission: “We cannot let our guard down, lest this momentum die out.”

Cochabamba (Agenzia Fides) - One year after launching the Permanent Mission, the experience can be described as positive. Now, all the ecclesiastical jurisdictions have launched the Permanent Mission in their local churches and many have started formation courses in parishes and rural areas. These successes are important, but there are still difficulties and a long road still to be traveled.
In a note sent to Fides, Fr. Eugenio Scarpellini, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Bolivia, says that the Assembly of Bishops has seen the positive trends of the mission, although there is still a long ways to go. “It is important to look ahead and to the objectives that were established, one of which is ongoing formation that is constant and gradual, involving people of all ages, offering an integral formation. We are saying that there should be no more ignorant Christians," said Fr. Scarpellini.
"The challenge comes when we see if we are prepared to support, motivate, and explain the faith that we have,” continues Fr. Eugenio. “...if we can break certain patterns of community life obsolete, if we are willing to set aside administrative problems and to become more missionary ... We are all involved in the Mission. We see that it has been an important year, but we cannot let our guard down, lest this momentum die out, so it is necessary to take more definitive steps, to show everyone this encounter with Jesus," concludes Fr. Scarpellini. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 20/04/2010)
