Trujillo (Agenzia Fides) – The following news was announced at a press conference, through a letter sent by the Apostolic Nuncio: The Catholic University of Trujillo will take the name of Pope Benedict XVI.
The proximity of the Catholic Church in Trujillo with Pope Benedict XVI has been shown once again: the Catholic University of Trujillo (UTC) will be called the "Catholic University of Trujillo - Benedict XVI," which is an unprecedented event in the Universal Church. This news was announced at a press conference attended Bishop Javier Martín Travieso, CMF., Auxiliary Bishop of Trujillo and other authorities of the city and from the University itself.
According to the note sent to Agenzia Fides, Bishop Martin Travieso said the good news arrived in a letter sent by the Nuncio of the Holy See in Peru, in which Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Bruno Musaro informed the Founder and Grand Chancellor of UCT, Archbishop Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte OFM, that the Secretary of State of His Holiness granted the “nihil obstat” (authorization) for the Catholic University of Trujillo to bear the name of the Supreme Pontiff.
"We are very happy, because we feel honored to be the University of the Pope. The Archbishop of Trujillo asked the Holy Father for permission to call ourselves: 'Catholic University of Trujillo Benedict XVI.' The Pope has accepted and now, with joy this implies, there is also the responsibility of maintaining a high level of education, just as the Holy Father maintains in the search for truth, as well as according to the desire that young people are trained in the ways of truth," said the Auxiliary Bishop.
The note also informs that the Papal Nuncio congratulates the Archdiocese of Trujillo for the creation of this important educational institution which has been made to strengthen university training, which involves not only the academic life, but also the Christian faith and culture of young people.
The Catholic University of Trujillo was officially created on March 23, 2010, when Bishop Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte received the final appointment by the National Council for authorization to operate the University, with Resolution No. 084-2010 – CONAFU. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 14/04/2010)
