AMERICA/MEXICO - Plenary Assembly of Bishops on “The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church”

Saturday, 10 April 2010

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) – The Mexican Bishops' Conference (CEM) will meet April 12 to 16 in Cuautitlan Izcalli for its Plenary Assembly, the first of two that take place every year. In light of the statutes and the Message of the Synod of 2008 on the Word of God, the theme of the meeting will be "The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church." For five days, the Bishops of the Catholic Church in Mexico will review and approve the programs of various Episcopal Commissions of the CEM for an efficient service of communion and collegiality. Although not part of the agenda, it is expected that the Assembly will consider the "hostile" campaign in recent times against the Pope and the Catholic Church. The Bishops of Mexico will also sign a statement of support and solidarity to Pope Benedict XVI. Similarly, it is expected that the Commissions for Social Pastoral Care and Communications will present the Bishops' Assembly of the urgent need, at all levels of the Church and society, to participate in the campaign for peace in Mexico.
