AMERICA/BOLIVIA - Assembly of Bolivian Bishops focus on permanent mission and priestly formation

Friday, 9 April 2010

Cochabamba (Agenzia Fides) – Next week, the Bishops of Bolivia will meet for their Ordinary Meeting in Cochabamba. The agenda includes the permanent mission, priestly and religious formation, as well as the political, social, and economic situation of the country. The "permanent mission" began in 2007 in Aparecida, at the initiative of the Latin American Bishops' Council (CELAM) convened by Pope Benedict XVI.
The Pope “invited us to a mission of evangelization that is able to summon all the forces of this immense flock that God's People in Latin America and the Caribbean - priests, religious and lay people - who generously, often with great difficulty, devote themselves to spreading the truth of the Gospel," said the statement from the Bishops' Conference.
Another concern of the bishops is the formation of priests, which during the celebration of the Year for Priests is one of the main items on the agenda for the traditional assembly of the Bishops' Conference. The Ordinary General Meeting of Bishops opens Friday, April 16, with a message from the President of the Bolivian Bishops' Conference, Cardinal Julio Terrazas Sandoval, Archbishop of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Preparatory work will begin Tuesday, April 13. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 09/04/2010)
