AMERICA/VENEZUELA - 102 radio stations in Latin America run by Jesuits seek establishment of network

Caracas (Agenzia Fides) – The first meeting of the radio network run by the Jesuits in Latin America and the Caribbean is underway. The meeting began Tuesday, March 16th, and will run until Saturday, March 20th, at the headquarters of the Venezuelan Bishops' Conference in Caracas. According to information received by Fides, the approximately 40 participants came from various parts of the continent. Representatives of radio stations in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Argentina, Paraguay, Peru, Ecuador, Honduras, and Venezuela, all came to the meeting with great enthusiasm and great hopes, and even with an enormous desire to promote networking among them.
Father Francisco Muguiro SJ, Director of the station “Radio Marañón,” which contributes to evangelization through sustainable development in the region northeast of Peru, expressed his joy and his hopes for this meeting. Fr. Muguiro said it was the first time that the Jesuit radio stations wish to offer a place that provides for coordination and collaboration in radio projects. There are 102 radio stations across the continent run by the Jesuits. José Ignacio López Vigil was been invited to this meeting as one of the keynote speakers. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 18/03/2010)
