VATICAN - Fr. Matteo Ricci and his method of dialogging and preaching the Christian faith in China: Lectio Magistralis at the Urbaniana

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – To mark the fourth centenary since the death of the Jesuit missionary Father Matteo Ricci, the Center for Chinese Studies at the Pontifical Urban University, presents a reflection from one of the highest authorities in the field of European Sinology, a science that studies the Chinese cultural world, its history and its relationship with other world cultures. Monday, March 8, 10:30 am in the Aula Magna of the University Urban a Lectio Magistralis is planned with Professor Nicholas Standaert, Professor of Sinology at the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), a leading international expert on the contact and the relationship between Chinese culture and European culture. There will be a special close examination of the figure of Matteo Ricci and his method of dialogue and proclamation of the Christian faith in the Chinese context. The program envisaged includes: the Greeting from Prof. Cataldo Zuccaro, Rector of the Pontifical Urban University; the Introduction by Prof. Alessandro Dell'Orto, the Director of the Center for Chinese Studies; the Lectio Magistralis by Prof. Nicolas Standaert, and Debate and the Conclusions of Professor Benedict Kanapally, Dean of the Faculty of Missiology.
