AMERICA/ECUADOR - Annual Assembly for coordinating missionary activity in the country

Quito (Agenzia Fides) – Diocesan Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Ecuador, members of the National Missionary Center (Cemin) of the Ecuadorian Bishops' Conference, and representatives of major religious congregations missionaries in Ecuador, gathered for the annual meeting held on February 8-9 in the “Bethania” Center for Spirituality. The purpose of this meeting (see Fides 30/1/2010) was to share and coordinate the activities of the PMS, with particular regard to compliance of the diocesan missionary centers (CEDIMIS) and parish mission teams (EPAMIS).
The event was attended by Bishop Paolo Mietto, Vicar Apostolic of Napo, Bishop Gonzalo López, Vicar Apostolic of Sucumbios and Chairman of the Commission for the Missions of the Ecuadorian Bishops' Conference, 18 Diocesan Directors of PMS, the CEMINA Team, a representative from each congregation (Franciscans, Capuchins, Identes Missionaries, Salesian, Missionaries of the Gospel, the Divine Word Missionaries, Comboni Secular Missionaries, Comboni Missionaries, Missionaries of the Consolatta, ans Franciscan Sisters of the Youth), the National Director of PMS and Coordinator of the Committee on Missions of the Ecuadorian Bishops' Conference, Fr. Reynaldo Franco Velasquez, along with the PMS staff. The Opening Mass was presided by Bishop Paolo Mietto and the Closing Mass, by Bishop Gonzalo López. At the end of the meeting, they also remembered Bishop Leonidas Proaño (see Fides 5/2/2010), as a sign of unity in the Church's missionary work in Ecuador. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 15/02/2010)
