Pescara (Agenzia Fides) – The Camillian Missionaries and the Technical Industrial Institute "A. Volta” in Pescara are the protagonists of an energy project in Kenya. In an effort to live out the Church's social doctrine on the protection of creation, as has been recently highlighted by the Papal Magisterium, Father Giuseppe Proserpio, Camillian Missionary in Africa, has produced a photovoltaic system for the production of electricity at the Catholic Mission he runs, in Consolata Hospital in Nkubu, in the Diocese of Meru. This has been made possible thanks to the contribution from the Office for International Cooperation of the Abruzzo Region and the cooperation offered by the Pescara school. The project, completed in recent days, reached its objectives, reducing the cost of running the hospital and the use of these savings in favor of the neediest people struggling with HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis, infectious diseases known to be endemic throughout the area of the Camillian mission. Fides learns from Dr. Vincenzo Di Giovanni, Volunteer Doctor for Health and Development, "The initiative was born from the collaboration between the NGO Section of the Pescara Health and Development, of the Camillian Fathers, and the Region of Abruzzo. The increased competence among developing countries through professional training of technicians and spreading awareness among local people regarding energy saving and the protection of Creation offers a bridge for the meeting with future generations. The project achieved at Nkubu is part of a broader program of implementing the Millennium Goals, environmental protection, and sharing technological information with the poorest people on the planet."
