Tuesday, 29 December 2009

Santa Cruz (Agenzia Fides) - The Archdiocese of Santa Cruz (Bolivia) aims to revive the baptismal commitment of the laity, by strengthening their organization so that, as disciples and missionaries, they live their responsibilities and become witnesses to the Catholicity of the Kingdom of God in society, in a joint effort of the mission. Among the specific objectives, the proposals include: the sharing of experience working in parishes and lay movements within the Church and society; evaluating the progress of the organization of the laity, in particular the Council of the Archdiocese; exploring the current situation of the local Church and society to identify challenges for the laity.
It is also urgent to illuminate the vocation and mission of the laity as specified by the document of the V Latin American Episcopal Conference and the Permanent Mission, so that they all may become disciples and missionaries. Among the objectives being aimed at is also the plan to develop an action plan for the organization of the laity, as well as forming the new Archdiocesan Council of the Laity.
Under the program, the first stage, called "preparation and convening," will run until February 27, with meetings in parishes and movements, for the election of delegates and responses to a series of questions on the earlier work . The second stage is scheduled for March 20, with the General Assembly, where they will review all responses and suggestions for the new organization of the Council of the Laity.
