Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - In relation to the indiscretions of the press on the UN report in which reference is made to two Xaverian missionaries working in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the General Curia of the Xaverian Missionaries has told Fides that "an official statement will be made only after we have read the text of the official document."
In fact, the report from an expert panel of the UN Security Council has not yet been made public, but several international news agencies have also posted rumors about its content. "Not having read the report I can not express any evaluation. I can only say that one must be cautious on advances in the press," Agenzia Fides was told by Fr. Cattani Loris, Xaverian missionary who is very familiar with the situation in Congo.
The UN document (see Fides 25/11/2009) describes the channels of financing and abetting used in cohorts with the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), a guerrilla group operating in North and South Kivu (in eastern DRC) since 1994. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 27/11/2009)
