AMERICA/COLOMBIA - "The mission of evangelization in the midst of conflict": Second National Meeting of Religious sponsored by the Department of Missionary Animation

Saturday, 7 November 2009

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - Colombia does not surrender before the violence of armed conflict that the country has been living a long time, while the Catholic Church continues to always offer a testimony of justice and peace with the presence of missionaries, especially in areas of conflict. In this context, the Department of Missionary Animation of the Colombian Bishops' Conference has promoted the Second National Meeting of Religious, with theme: "The evangelizing mission in the midst of conflict." This meeting will be held November 9 to 12 at the headquarters of the Colombian Bishops' Conference (CEC). It will also be an opportunity to reflect together on what human and pastoral response to offer, so as to contribute to building peace amidst violence and difficulties that many communities and many priests are facing in this situation of conflict in Colombia.
Among the suggested topics for consideration are: illumine the situation with international human rights; be builders of peace and reconciliation; the life and mission of religious in the midst of conflict, in light of the Synod of Bishops; the post-conflict situations; concrete commitments to work for peace in the country. Participants in the meeting have been encouraged to bring a description of violence in their region using digital media. The meeting is organized by the National Conciliation Commission (CCN) and the National Missionary Center of the Missionary Animation Department of the CEC.
