AMERICA/URUGUAY - Priests and bishops of the Dioceses of Salto, Mercedes, and Tacuarembo reflect on carrying out the Continental Mission

Monday, 19 October 2009

Salto (Agenzia Fides) – Last week, at the “Casa San Jose” religious residence, some forty priests, along with Bishop Carlos Collazzi of Mercedes, Bishop Pablo Galimberti of Salto, and Bishop Julio Bonino of Tacuarembo, participated in an encounter on the theme of the Continental Mission, at the light of the Aparecida Conference.
The encounter was also attended by sociologist Nestor Da Costa, who intervened on the “State of religious spirit in Uruguay.” Professor Lucas Cervino, of the Latin American Institute for Missiology in Cochabamba (Bolivia), offered an analysis on the assumptions and interpretations of the Great Mission. He also highlighted the need for greater clarity in the area of the missions, going in search of the “lost pearls” and for a “mission in today's world.” There were also moments for personal reflection, in such a way that each priest could determine the challenges that the mission presents to each and every one in their respective Diocese, thus addressing interesting aspects on the subject.
