AFRICA/EGYPT - Updates from the Catholic Church in Egypt: appointment of Vicar of Alexandria and Combonian missionary presents book

Cairo (Agenzia Fides) – His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI appointed Fr. Adel Zaki, OFM, Parish Pastor of “Our Lady of Mt. Carmel” in Boulac (Cairo), Apostolic Vicar of Alexandria, of the Latin Rite community of Egypt. The Bishop-elect was born in the city of Luxor in 1947 and was ordained a priest in 1972. He has also served as Secretary General of the Assembly of the Catholic Hierarchy in Egypt.
Combonian Father Giuseppe Scattolin was invited on September 8 to the “Egyptian Book Fair” to give a conference on “Spiritual Transfigurations in Islam,” which is the title of a new book by Fr. Scattolin, a specialist in Sufism. (LM) (Agenzia Fides 18/9/2009)
