AFRICA/UGANDA - Bishop of Kotido appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI, with the date August 17, 2009, appointed Fr. Giuseppe Filippi, MCCJ, Provincial Superior of the Combonian Missionaries in Uganda, as Bishop of Kotido (Uganda).
Fr. Giuseppe Filippi, MCCJ, was born on March 17, 1945 in Baselga del Bondone, Archdiocese of Trent (Italy). He completed his primary and secondary studies in public schools in Italy. He later studied Philosophy and Theology at the National Major Seminary in Ggaba, Uganda. He earned a diploma in Pastoral and Religious Studies (1974-1978). He made his perpetual profession on April 28, 1977 and was ordained a priest on June 26, 1978. He has since ministered as follows: 1978-1980: Vocational Director of the Combonian Province in Uganda, Assistant at the Parish of Morulem (Diocese of Moroto), Vocational Director and Promoter for the same diocese; 1980-1991: Vice-Rector, Spiritual Director, Professor, Dean of Studies, and later Rector of the Diocesan Minor Seminary “Nadiket” of Moroto; 1982: Secretary General for the First Diocesan Synod of Moroto; 1990: Secretary General for the Second Diocesan Synod of Moroto; 1991-1997: Assistant General of the Combonian Missionaries, Rome; 1997-1999: Parish Pastor of Morulem, Diocese of Kotido; 1999-2004: Master of Novices for Combonian Missionaries in Zambia. Since 2004, he has been the Provincial Superior of the Combonian Missionaries in Uganda. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 31/8/2009)
