ASIA/SRI LANKA - Archbishop of Colombo resigns, successor appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI on June 16, 2009, accepted the renunciation of the pastoral government of the Archdiocese of Colombo (Sri Lanka) presented by Archbishop Oswald Thomas Colman Gomis, in conformity with the Code of Canon Law, canon 401 § 1. The Holy Father appointed as Archbishop of Colombo (Sri Lanka), Archbishop Patabendige Don Albert Malcolm Ranjith, Titular Archbishop of Umbriatico, transferring him from the Office of Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
