Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Father Benedict XVI, on May 11, 2009, appointed Fr. Devprasad John Ganawa, S.V.D., Rector of the SVD Center in Udaipur, Bishop of Jhabua (India).
Fr. Devprasad John Ganawa, S.V.D. was born on December 8, 1951 in Panchuki, Diocese of Jhabua. He received priestly formation at the SVD Seminary of St. Thomas in Poona and at the Pontifical Athaeneum in Poona. He took his first vows in the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) on June 8, 1974 and perpetual vows on June 7, 1981. He was ordained a priest on October 27, 1982 and has since ministered as follows: 1982-1984: Parish Vicar, Khandwa Cathedral; 1984-1986: Parish Vicar in Khargone; 1986-1987: Rector of St. Thomas S.V.D. Seminary, Mhow; 1987-1992: Provincial Councilor; 1992-1995: Rector of the S.V.D. Juniorate, Palda; 1995-2001: Parish Pastor in Ranapur (now the Diocese of Jhabua); 2001-2008: Director of the Maitri Sadan Dialogue Centre, Udaipur. Since 2008: Rector of the SVD Center in Udaipur.
