Lima (Agenzia Fides) – “La Barca” Youth Catholic Association was founded in 2002 in Peru, with the goal of evangelizing through the mass media, with particular focus on music, organizing events, concerts, social gatherings, and prayer for youth.
This is what led to the creation of Gozo Radio Station in late 2006. The station reaches many Peruvian cities and airs 24 hours a day on the Internet, Christian music programs, reflections, moments of Eucharistic Adoration, various programs on the youth and family, catechesis for couples preparing for marriage, and reflections and catechesis with priests. Gozo Radio's fame has spread quickly in little time, becoming a reference point for the youth in Peru, including for non-Christians that continually telephone the station or send e-mails, participating through their questions and requests for information from the radio's hosts.
“I found out about the Christian faith,” says Christian, an 18 year-old from Lima, “thanks to Gozo Radio. I started listening to it, out of curiosity – at first a little dubious. But then, little by little, I began attending some of the activities organized by the youth from the Radio. I was amazed to see so many young people working in this project and I have been attracted more and more each day ever since. Today, Gozo Radio has become a daily point of reference for me in my faith, for my entire day.”
Gozo Radio on the Internet, is also becoming a point of reference for the Spanish-speaking Catholic world in general. The Radio, in collaboration with the association “La Barca” has also organized the “International Praise Festival” that features a large number of international guests every year. They have also produced 5 music CDs for evangelization that have sold thousands of copies, not only among their listeners. On their home page, there is also a Chat option, for getting in contact with other friends, a bookstore of volumes of Christian inspiration and a wide range of audios available for i-pod.
