ASIA/KOREA - Auxiliary Bishop of Daejeon appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, on 10 February 2009, appointed Fr. Augustinus Kim Jong Soo, Rector of the Major Seminary in Daejeon, as Auxiliary Bishop of Daejeon (Korea) assigning him the titular see of Sufasar.
Fr. Augustinus Kim Jong Soo was born February 8, 1956 in Taehung-dong, Daejeon. Before entering the Major Seminary in Seoul, he studied History at the national University of Seoul, earning a Licentiate and later serving in the Korean Air Force. He was ordained a priest on February 13, 1989 for the Diocese of Daejeon. He has since ministered as follows: 1989: Pastor of a Parish in Buchangdong, in Nonsan; 1990-1994: Sacred Scripture studies at the Pontifical Bible Institute in Rome, residing at the International College of St. Thomas Aquinas; 1994-1997: Parish Pastor in Haemi; 1997-2001: Professor, Spiritual Father and Dean of Students at the Catholic University of Daejeon (Major Seminary); 2001-2007: Professor and Director of the Diocesan Catechetical Institute; since 2007: President of the Catholic University of Daejeon (Rector of the Major Seminary).
