ASIA/INDIA - Auxiliary Bishop of Ranchi appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, on 10 February 2009, appointed Monsignor Binay Kandulna of the clergy of Khunti, collaborator at the Apostolic Nunciature in New Delhi, as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Ranchi (India), assigning him the titular see of Auzugera.
Msgr. Binay Kandulna was born on January 3, 1964 in Gondra, in the then Archdiocese of Ranchi, now part of the Diocese of Khunti. He entered St. Albert's Major Seminary in Ranchi, for studies in Philosophy and Theology. He was ordained on April 23, 1994 for the Diocese of Khunti. He has since ministered as follows: 1994-1997: Pastor of Holy Rosary Church, Mahugaon; Director and Teacher of the Parochial Middle School; 1997-2001: studies for a degree in Canon Law at the Urbaniana University, residing at Saint Paul the Apostle Pontifical College; 2002-2004: Vicar, St. Michael's Cathedral, Khunti, and Judge of the Regional Ecclesiastical Tribunal, Secretary of the Parochial Middle School, and Student Residence Director. He also worked as the Bishop's personal secretary. Since 2004, he has worked as a collaborator in the Apostolic Nunciature in New Delhi. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 12/2/2009)
