Monday, 27 October 2008

Hsin Chu (Agenzia Fides) - “Today, once more, following in the footsteps of Fr. Cheng Wan Li, we offer our service to society.” This was how Bishop John Li, of the Diocese of Hsin Chu, President of the Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Children's Center, expressed the Center's task as it celebrates its 40th anniversary of foundation, which they honored in the presence of the children who attend the Center and have attended it in the past.
The French Jesuit Fr. Cheng Wan Li, founded the Center for children suffering from poliomyelitis and abandoned by their families. The Center soon began to take in orphans and children who suffered abuse or abandonment from their families, as well as those from difficult families, to show that “Love is present in humanity and can be found in many places.” The Little Sisters of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus have contributed to the Center's growth and today, they themselves run the Center, continuing the work of the French missionary who died October 27, 1983. The Center is maintained by the generosity of benefactors and social groups. With the help received from society, the Center has been able to offer children moral formation and education, which are the bases of all human relations. Many of them have today grown up to become model citizens, faithful spouses and good parents. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 27/10/2008)
