ASIA/SOUTH KOREA - Korean Bishops' Conference focuses on the Church's commitment to formation and preaching the Gospel

Monday, 27 October 2008

Seoul (Agenzia Fides) – In their General Assembly of Fall 2008, the Korean Bishops' Conference has elected as President of the Conference Bishop Peter Kang U-il of Cheju and as Vice-President, Bishop Jacobus Kim Ji-Seok of Wonju.
The two newly elected Bishops expressed their gratitude for the trust placed in them by their brother Bishops, affirming that they work to lead the Conference in its new challenges, on the path marked by their predecessors.
The Bishops of Korea will continue working on their pastoral programs, especially in the area of formation in the communities and in strengthening the faith of the priests, religious, and laity, placing the Word of God and the “lectio divina” at the heart of Church life.
The Church will also work in the area of testimony, speaking out in defense of the supreme value of life in Korea's society, seeking new ways to evangelize and to being Christ's message to all those who still do not know Him, whether it be in Korea or in the mission ad gentes.
The Christian message must be brought into society, into the culture, into the world of the media, so that the Gospel can serve as salt, light, and yeast of the Korean nation, the Bishops said. They also announced the study and preparation of pastoral guidelines for the Church for the coming years. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 27/10/2008)
