La Paz (Agenzia Fides) – “We are pained by the fact that a country of our America, with its poverty and its great faith, is now facing great difficulties in maintaining national unity.” With these words begins the letter written by Caritas of Latin America and the Caribbean to Bishop Luis Morgan Casey, President of the Bishops’ Committee for Social-Pastoral Ministry of Caritas Bolivia. The letter expressed the group’s closeness and support for Bolivia in this crisis it is going through.
In their letter, the leaders of this international entity ask God to help the Bolivian people in this difficult time, “to walk with brotherly love on the path of sincere dialogue and respect for all people, creating areas of understanding that eliminate all violence,” and thus allow for the growth of “the dignity of people, citizens, and believers who are capable of listening to one another and coming together, because we want to build a Bolivia for all of its citizens.”
“The youth of Bolivia, your children, deserve a future full of peace, where harmony and fraternity are the trademark of our cities.” Continuing in this conflict will only lead to “increased suffering in people’s hearts and in the families.”
“As brothers and sisters of all Latin America and the Caribbean, we join hands with all those Bolivians who, with a sincere heart, are trying their best to bring peace to Bolivia,” the letter concludes. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 18/9/2008)
