ASIA - BIRD FLU- Two new outbreaks in China, suspect seed bed in Japan, 14 new outbreaks in 9 provinces of Thailand

Rome (Fides Service) - Bird flu, which in Asia has killed 20 people, has appeared in 9 more areas of Thailand among different types of fighting cocks. The Chinese health minister announced the discovery of two new outbreaks of bird flu in Hunan, making a total of 50 outbreaks confirmed or suspect in China, where no cases of infection of humans have been reported.
A suspect outbreak of bird flu was reported in Japan after positive tests on a dozen dead chicken in a farm in Oita, on the southern island of Kyushu. This is the second outbrek in Japan after poultry with bird flu were reported in Yamaguchi last month. (AP) (17/2/2004 Agenzia Fides; Righe:16; Parole:175)
