Vatican City (Fides Service) – The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II has (16 January 2004) accepted the renunciation of the pastoral government of the Archdiocese of Goa and Damão (India), presented by Archbishop Raul Nicolau Gonsalves, in conformity with the Code of Canon Law canon 401 § 1.
The Holy Father has appointed (16 January 2004) Archbishop of Goa e Damão with the title of Honorary Patriarch of the East Indies Mgr Filipe Neri António Sebastião do Rosario Ferrão, until now titular Bishop of Vanariona and auxiliary of Goa and Damao archdiocese.
