AMERICA/CANADA - 49th International Eucharistic Congress: Youth Space, prayer vigil, Family Day, and Youth Service are among the activities planned for youth

Quebec City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Marc Ouellet and the 2008 International Eucharistic Congress (IEC 2008) organizers invite young people aged 18 to 35 to take part in events to be held June 15 to 22. Youth Space, a prayer evening, a family day, a weekend for teenagers, and a Youth Service are some of the activities planned.
Located in the Science Pavilion on the site of ExpoCité, the Youth Space be open June 15 to 21, from noon until midnight every day. This area will be hosted by young adults and will act as a meeting place where young people from across the globe can express their faith and take part in a wide variety of activities. In the area, there will be a café/meeting area and an exhibit on the pilgrimage of the Ark of the New Covenant.
There will also be a round table discussion on the theme of “What everyone should be talking about,” “Evangelism through new communication methods,” and “Eat. Sleep. Work… Pray?” or how to live faith in the modern world. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in “Fiesta At Zachée’s” on June 16 at 6:00 p.m. A music festival showcasing the growing Catholic music market will take place on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21.
Families and teenagers can also take advantage of a program tailored to their needs and expectations. For youths aged 12 to 17, there will be a variety of workshops held in the form of rallies and participants will discover Blessed historical characters from Quebec City’s history including Marie-de-l’Incarnation, Catherine de Saint-Augustin, and Mgr. François de Laval. Approximately 1,200 young people and their guardians are expected for these activities.
Family day will be held on Saturday, June 21 at Montmartre Canadien. Events will include interactive teaching sessions, moments of sharing and reflection, a Eucharistic celebration, and, finally, musical entertainment and games for kids.
The evening of prayer and worship will bring together nearly 4,000 young people aged 18 to 35 at the Youth Pavilion. Numerous cardinals and bishops will also be in attendance. The event will be presided over by Cardinal Jozef Tomko, a legate assigned by Pope Benedict XVI.
From May 25 until the end of the congress, 140 youths aged 18 to 35 will take part in the Youth Service. These young volunteers are offering a month of their time to contribute to the success of the congress and enhance their spiritual life. They will come from across the globe. The youth will also explore the city and its history by taking part in Eucharistic celebrations in all founding areas, such as Notre-Dame-des-Victoires Church, Notre-Dame-de-Québec Basilica-Cathedral, and Maison Mère-Mallet.
