VATICAN - Holy Father expresses his condolences for the death of the Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI has sent a telegram expressing his condolences to the lieutenant ad interim of the order, for the death of the Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, His Most Eminent Highness Fra' Andrew Bertie, that occurred on February 7th. In the telegram, the Pope expressed his spiritual participation in mourning the death and extends his condolences to the entire order, recalling, "the work of this man of culture and of his generous commitment in the fulfilment of his high office, especially in favour of those most in need, and for his love for the Church and for his luminous testimony of the principles of the Gospel," in reference to Fra’ Andrew Bertie. Benedict XVI also expressed his prayer that this special soul may rest in peace and in a consoling manner, conferred his Apostolic Blessing upon the entire Order. (S.L.)
