ASIA/MALAYSIA - Auxiliary Bishop of Sibu appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, on 25 January 2008, appointed Rev. Joseph Hii Teck Kwong, parish priest at Mary Immaculate Conception parish in Kapit, (Malaysia), auxiliary Bishop of the diocese of Sibu (Malaysia) assigning to him the titular see of Castel mediano.
The new Auxiliary Bishop was born on 25 June 1965 in Sibu. He attended local schools in Sibu and then entered St. Peter’s major seminary College in Kuching, in 1986, to study philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest on 25 March 1993 for the diocese of Sibu. Since his ordination he has ministered as follows: 1993: assistant priest at St. Anthony’s Church, Sarikei; 1993-1997: assistant priest at St. Herbert’s Parish, Song and Mary Immaculate Conception Church, Kapit; 1997-1999: Studies for a licentiate in spiritual theology at the Teresianum College in Rome.
