OCEANIA/MARSHALL ISLANDS - Apostolic Prefect of Marshall Islands appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI on 21 December 2007, accepted the renunciation of the pastoral government of the Apostolic of Marshal Islands, presented by Rev. Fr. James C. Gould, SJ., in conformity with the Code of Canon Law, canon 401 § 2. The Holy Father has appointed Apostolic Prefect of Marshall Islands Rev. Raymundo Sabio, M.S.C., of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, former missionary in Korea.
The new prefect was born in Tabungan on 2 March 1946, in the diocese of Jaro. After primary school at Binalbagan and secondary school at Sacred Heart Seminary, Talisay (Cebu) , he studied at the University of Manila. At Loyola University in Chicago he obtained a masters in spirituality. He joined the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on 28 June 1965 and made his perpetual profession on 29 June 1969. He was ordained a priest on 28 December 1971.
He has held various positions and has been Rector of the Formation Centre of his Congregation, Novice Master and missionary in Korea. Since August 2005 he has worked in Marshall Islands. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 21/12/2007; Righe 15; Parole 197)
